New York Comic Con

My boyfriend, Bill, is a graphic designer and he loves comics and movies. He’s been going to Comic Con (San Diego and New York) for years, but this year he got to go for his work and they let me tag along. It was quite an experience and it was great for taking photos! Here are my favorites:

Riley’s First Birthday Party

I’ve had the great privilege to document some important milestones for the Holmes’ family and I was thrilled to be asked back to photograph sweet Riley’s first birthday party! Riley’s parents, Jennifer and Jonathan, know how to host and style a beautiful event, and this one was no different. Not only that, but the party was recently featured on the party-inspiration website, Hostess With The Mostess. Riley’s party theme was The County Fair and the details were awesome! Jonathan and Jennifer also celebrated the Korean first birthday tradition, Dol (or doljanchi), where Riley was placed in front of  objects such as a musical instrument, money, pencils, and food. She was then encouraged to pick up an object that would foretell her future.  Scroll down to see what Riley’s future holds! Here my favorites from the day:

I know, girlfriend! I felt the same way when I had to put on my hanbok (traditional Korean dress)!

Riley chose food! She will never be hungry!

Featured on Hostess With the Mostess

Congratulations to my good friends, Jonathan and Jennifer, who’s first birthday party for their second daughter, Riley, was featured on the great party-inspiration website, Hostess With The Mostess. Jonathan and Jennifer take party planning and DIY’ing seriously and created a fabulous county-fair themed party for their second daughter, Riley. If you go check out the post, you’ll also notice Riley decked out in a traditional Korean dress, called a hanbok, as she participates in the Korean first birthday tradition of a Korean Dol (or doljanchi). The rest of the county fair party was decked out with homemade games, food, and decorations that would make Martha Stewart proud. Jennifer and Jonathan, I bow to your awesomeness!

I had the privilege of photographing the super fun event and you can check out some of Riley’s photos by visiting the blog, Hostess With The Mostess. And don’t forget to peruse the fun site for great party inspirations!

P.S. Look for a framed photo of Riley on the mantle that I took when she was a newborn! It’s always exciting to see my work displayed in my clients’ homes and I just love those cheeks!

Mitt Romney

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to photograph Cuyahoga County’s 20th Annual Lincoln Day Dinner at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, with my good friend Justin Ketchem. 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney was the keynote speaker. Here are some shots from the event:

Dottie and Frank’s 50th Wedding Anniversary

What a privilege to document the celebration of 50 years of marriage! It’s so exciting to be a part of the start of a marriage, but really inspiring to be a witness to a long and loving marriage. Thank you, Dottie and Frank, for having me at your beautiful celebration! Here’s to many more years of wedded bliss!

Parkside Church Women’s Events

My church hosted another event in the past couple of weeks, but this one was just for the ladies, a spring tea.  They went all out!  Ladies, you all looked lovely!  And, great job to the  planning committee!

Parkside Church Men’s Events

Okay, since last I blogged, I covered a few more events for my church.  I really enjoy covering events where I can shoot just candids.  My absolute favorite type of shooting is when I go unnoticed and can capture people being themselves without them feeling pressure to pose for the camera.  Here are some of my favorites:

Parkside Church’s 2010 Men’s Forum…

Parkside Church’s Basics 2010 Pastors Conference

For the past eleven years or so (I’m not sure about the exact length of time), Parkside has hosted a conference for pastors from around the world.  This year, more than 950 pastors came to Cleveland for the three-day event.  Here are my favorites:

Whew…it’s been busy!

Wow, the past few months have flown and we’re already in the middle of May! I’m going to post a smattering of what’s been going on in an effort to catch you up…

Back in February, bride-to-be Kendra, had her bridal shower at the Saucy Bistro in Westlake, Ohio.  Her mom, Susan, did a wonderful job hosting a lovely and fun afternoon for all the ladies.

The always hilarious toilet-paper wedding dress contest!

Stay tuned for Kendra and James’ wedding, coming up later this May!

March Madness

March is usually one of my favorite times of the year because of the NCAA basketball tournament, but this year my team didn’t make it to the tournament and I thought I was going to be spared from the madness.  Sadly, no.  I let myself root for Butler, and while it was a fantastic game, I had tournament hangover because they lost.  No drinking involved, mind you.  Just total fan let-down.  Anyway, I digress.  My church had it’s own March Madness for it’s high school youth group.  Here’s some of the madness:

Team spirit costumes...good times, good times...

Inspired, no?

April Flowers

I’m always so happy when winter is over.  Here are some cheery April flowers:

Pink Dogwood

In April,  I covered Parkside’s Easter service.  At both Christmas and Easter, volunteers from the congregation form a choir and perform amazing concerts which are free and open to the public.  Feel free to check out their website during those holiday times to get more details.  Just a warning, the auditorium gets packed so plan to get there early to get a good seat!  No joke.  So, here’s what the Easter concert looked like:

Some of you might remember my amazing friend, Gwen.  She’s the one who singlehandedly took on her local school board to try to get some healthier food options included on the school lunch menus.  Remember, Super Donut?  Well, Gwen is quite a go-getter and she has followed her healthy eating crusade by getting her kids’ elementary school to plant an orchard!  I was so happy to help Gwen by capturing the planting of the apple trees and the grape vines.  I believe raspberry bushes are coming soon.  Stay tuned for the dedication ceremony!

John Lang, head of the Urban Forestry Department at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent, OH

The local high school, Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent, Ohio, has an urban forestry department where students learn about landscaping and a whole host of other plant-related things.  Gwen worked it out so that the kids in that program, along with John and another teacher from the program, came to help do proper planting.

Grow little grapevine, grow!

May? Already?

More photos of fabulous baked goods from Angela Jolliffe of Lick The Spoon Cupcakery.  She’ll be providing some of the treats at an upcoming ladies’ tea that I’ll be covering tomorrow.  We took some quick photos of her family, too…Way too cute…

Just sweetness

Okay, now let's get to work

I love the little hand sneaking one!

Lovely packaging

In May, I was also hired to shoot marketing photos for a local fishing and game club down in Canton.  Since I almost worked for Outdoor Life magazine at one point in my life, I thought it sounded like fun!  I don’t really fish, and definitely don’t hunt (well, I guess I kind of do with my camera, but not with ammunition), but I like the outdoors and I’ve always wanted to learn how to shoot at targets.  I met a great group of people who were so much fun!  Thanks to everyone who modeled for me, you all did a great job!  And as a disclaimer, I’m going to refer to things in my captions below, but I have no idea if I’m using the correct terminology.  Please forgive any faux pas! 🙂

Psst...you better run!

Finally, I was covering a three-day conference this week and will have photos from that soon.  Wedding season starts next weekend for me, so check back soon.

Thanks for stopping by!
